Lasting, valued relationships are made stronger as we gather around the table to share conversation and a meal. At St. Margaret’s, sharing meals and the comfortable companionship of a communal dining atmosphere cements lifetime bonds of friendship. The new Sillers Dining Hall and Kitchen will allow for healthy and nutritious hot meals and the camaraderie of the entire St. Margaret’s community in a hospitable renovated dining area.
Goals of the SILLERS DINING HALL & KITCHEN
- To allow preparation of healthy and nutritious meals without reliance on vendors.
- To increase variability of the school menu by allowing onsite food preparation.
- To accommodate the need for hot nutritious meals in a community dining area for the entire campus.
- To provide healthy snacks.
- To act as a central gathering place for students, faculty, staff and parents.
TOTAL COST: $1.2 million
All St. Margaret’s students will enjoy healthy hot meals together in a comfortable setting; parents will be welcome to drop in for a cup of coffee with each other; and instructors from different areas of the campus will socialize or discuss changes in the curriculum.
The Sillers Hall multipurpose building was named for St. Margaret’s founder, The Reverend Canon Ernest D. Sillers. As performing arts productions relocate from the current Sillers Hall to the new Performing Arts Center, Sillers Dining Hall and Kitchen will become a dedicated all-school dining facility. When the interior rooms and stage are removed and the interior is renovated as a large dining area, additional doors will be added on the north side to allow for ease of entry. As the kitchen is expanded to the full width of the building, Sillers Hall will be a modern, welcoming food-safe facility with the capability of providing onsite, nutritious meals for the entire campus, with the potential to serve as a center for nutritional and cultural culinary education for St. Margaret’s students.
St. Margaret’s current dining hall is collegial and vendors’ menus are approved by the school nurse. However, onsite preparation will allow for versatility and variability, along with the potential for accommodating special dietary needs or restrictions. The once separate eating areas will be integrated, so that the community may truly break bread together.
