Goals of the MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • To build a 24,116-square-foot,two-story building.
  • To provide a mini-campus for students.
  • To provide 17 general classrooms.
  • To add four science laboratories.
  • To include one art room.
  • To add an outdoor patio adjacent to the art room.
  • To provide state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment with wireless technology.

TOTAL COST: $9.3 million

The Middle School is designed to accommodate grades 6 through 8 separately while sharing a mini-campus. Each grade level will occupy separate areas around a central quad, in a physical setting designed to optimize the educational process at this age level. The central quad will provide a focal point and meeting place, with an outdoor amphitheater seating up to 170, to be used for outdoor classes, lunch and special events.

This 24,116-square-foot facility will meet instructional needs with 17 general classrooms, and four science classrooms designed to accommodate a variety of seating configurations, allowing for flexible instruction scaled to the students’ needs. The L-shaped building will be located west of the Performing Arts Center in an area currently occupied by two buildings in the Ortega Village Center.

The planned design is guided by a philosophy of St. Margaret’s founder, The Reverend Canon Ernest D. Sillers: Educate the whole child. The building and curriculum work in concert to enhance studies in English, social studies, science and mathematics, as well as Latin, music, and the visual and performing arts and athletics. This philosophy and an understanding of the unique needs of Middle School students has inspired and informed the design of the new dedicated Middle School.
